🎓 Pearson & British Esports to Host National V-Level Briefing: A Defining Moment for Esports Education

The future of esports qualifications in the UK is moving at pace and the next major milestone has now been confirmed.

Pearson and the British Esports Federation will jointly deliver a national online briefing and live Q&A on Thursday 18th December, focused on how Esports could be positioned within the Department for Education’s Post-16 Education and Skills Strategy.

This session comes at a critical time as the Government consults on sweeping reforms to Level 3 and below qualifications, including the introduction of V Levels from 2027 and the long-term future of the BTEC Nationals in Esports.

What Will the Session Cover?

This national briefing, delivered by Pearson and British Esports, will provide an official update on how Esports could be positioned within the Post-16 Education and Skills Strategy. The session will share their perspective on the proposed reforms and outline where they see Esports fitting within the wider V-Level framework.

The session will conclude with a live open Q&A, giving educators and providers the opportunity to ask direct questions, gain clarity on next steps, and better understand timelines and transition planning.

This is one of the most important formal update sessions esports education has seen to date.

The National Consultation Is Still Open

Alongside the briefing, the DfE’s Post-16 Level 3 and Below Pathways Consultation remains open until:

Monday 12 January 2026

This consultation will determine how V Levels will be designed and delivered, how current qualifications such as BTECs will transition or be replaced, and where subjects like Esports will sit within the future system.

British Esports continues to strongly encourage all centres to respond and advocate for:

  • A Small Esports V Level (360 GLH)

  • A Large Esports V Level (1080 GLH)

The official Post-16 Level 3 and Below Pathways consultation document is available through the Department for Education.

Why This Matters for Esports Centres

As NTesports has previously reported, the BTEC in Esports has driven record student engagement, led to major facility investment, opened new career and university pathways, and re-engaged learners who had previously struggled in traditional education.

With V Levels approaching, the sector now faces a pivotal question:

Does esports secure a formal, funded future – or risk being left behind?

This Pearson & British Esports briefing offers centres their best opportunity yet to gain clarity and influence the direction of travel.

NTesports Managing Director Nik Turner commented:

“This is one of the most important moments esports education has ever faced.
The BTEC in Esports transformed how colleges engage students. Now, with V Levels on the horizon, we must ensure that esports not only survives this transition, but grows within it.
This Pearson and British Esports session is absolutely a must-attend for educators.”
